Dr. Carlson was born and raised in Indiana. Her undergraduate education was at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, despite being from West Lafayette, Indiana, home of archrival Purdue. She graduated with a B. A. degree in Biology and forged ahead to medical school. Dr. Carlson’s medical education continued at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana. She completed an internship in obstetrics and gynecology, before deciding to specialize in anesthesia. While waiting for her residency to begin, Dr. Carlson had the opportunity to be a doctor on a Caribbean Cruise Ship. She completed her anesthesia training in December of 1983, under the Chairmanship of Robert K. Stoelting, M.D., renowned author of numerous anesthesia research articles and textbooks. Dr. Ann Carlson became a member of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Arizona in July 2000, bringing with her sixteen years of private practice experience in anesthesia.
