Dr. Hafner received his Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Pre-medicine from Brigham Young University in 1989. He then became commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force, Second Lieutenant in 1990 . From 1990 to 1994 he attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, while taking the Health Professionals Officer's Indocrination Course and the Combat Casualty Care Course (ACLS/ATLS Certification). In 1994, he was promoted to Captain, United States Air Force. From 1994-1995 he completed his General Medicine Internship at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Dr. Hafner completed two years of residency in Anesthesiology at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base in Texas (1995-1997). He was employed as a General Medical Officer on Lackland Air Force Base from 1997 to 1999, at which time he continued his residency training in Anesthesiology at the Univeristy of Arizona, graduating in 2001. Following his graduation from residency, he was appointed as a faculty member in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Arizona. In addition, since 2005 he has been the Director of Perioperative Services at University Medical Center.
