Anesthetic Mechanisms

How do anesthetics work? What is the molecular basis for anesthesia? Can we understand anesthetic mechanisms if we don't understand consciousness? Studies on anesthetic mechanisms in our Department date to the early 80's and continue to this day with laboratory animal experiments, computer simulation and clinical studies on subjective time flow.
